Wednesday 17th July

The final day at home before I travel. I have just got back from Tescos (other supermarkets are available) with the first day essentials. I say essentials but read junk food really. So now I have the fig rolls, flap jacks, jelly babies and porridge for breakfast. I have been checking the weather forecast lately for Penzance and it is looking interesting for my first full day, I really hope it changes, a steel bike on high hills with lightening forecast!!! However cycling in the rain can have its own charm if you are dressed correctly. I’m just not quite so sure about putting up and taking down a wet tent.

Monday 15th July

Today was the the last day of preparation for this years madness. My bike had been serviced by Jaime Guyton (Top man and highly recommend him, you can find him at J Guyton Cyles on facebook)) and I wanted to have a final spin fully loaded to make sure everything was ok. 20 miles with the Monday 53-11 social group was ideal and I held my own up the hills (well hills for Norfolk I know my perception of hills will change in the coming days). The bike is all good, kit all packed and this time as I am going to be camping more than my previous LEJOG so it is even heavier than before. Other changes this time, well Genevieve (My bike) has had a dynamo fitted to her front hub so I can charge power packs on the move ( as long as I’m going fast enough). This means my Garmin and phone can be charged via these power packs and I am not reliant on finding a mains point to charge from each day.

I will be navigating using my phone with Ride with GPS that gives me turn by turn instructions and a map I can check. My route for this adventure is here https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29040248

This years madness…

Published by Paul Andrew Cycling Adventures

Paul had his half a telegram birthday in 2016 and made a few life changing decisions. He lost 5.5 stone and then decided to start cycling again. Riding from Lands End to John O'Groats had been an ambition since he was 20. That challenge was met in 2017 and then the Four Cardinal points in 2019. He has Obsessive Cycling Disorder and its now time for the next challenge. He works in a Norwich Primary School, trains teachers, supports schools and loves Maths. He has a very understanding OH and a blind miniature schnauzer called Alfie . This blog is to enable all those who are interested to track his progress, see the cakes he eats, beers he drinks and hopefully share in the success!
